Title: Implementation of a whole blood program for treatment of severely bleeding patients in times of peace and war

 

The session includes the following topics:

  1. Lessons learned from the history of and the rationale for the use of whole blood in treatment of severely bleeding patients
  2. Efficacy and safety of whole blood transfusion with examples from in-hospital and prehospital use of whole blood in Norway
  3. Practical aspects of implementation of a whole blood program
  4. Emergency collection of whole blood as a preparedness measure
  5. The use of Walking Blood Banks in a civilian and military setting
  6. Demonstration: Emergency collection of whole blood

 

 

Registration required.

 

Target group: Civilian and military health personnel. Blood Service, Prehospital and In-hospital health services.

 

Number of participants: Open

 

Content:

In the workshop we will discuss the use of whole blood and how to implement a whole blood program for treatment of severely bleeding patients in times of peace and war.

Practical training session

 

Title: Emergency collection of whole blood from a walking blood bank.

(Separate registration.)

 

Target group: Civilian and military health personnel wanting to get a hands-on experience of emergency collection of whole blood.

 

Number of participants: 20

 

Content:

The practical procedures that will be performed include:

  • Rapid testing of blood type (ABO and RhD testing)
  • Collection of whole blood for training purposes.
